Actor James Woods Under Fire for Mocking Gender-Creative Boy

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

James Woods is coming under fire this week for mocking an 8-year-old gender-creative boy, People magazine reports.

The Academy Award nominated actor took to Twitter Monday and posted a photo of a family - a mother and father holding signs that read, "I love my gender-creative song!" and "My son wears dresses & makeup... Get over it!!" The picture was taken at Orange County Pride Parade in California.

Woods, 70, added his own comments to the heartwarming photo in a tweet:

"This is sweet. Wait until this poor kid grows up, realizes what you've done, and stuffs both of you dismembered into a freezer in the garage," the "Videodrome" star wrote.

Unsurprisingly a Twitter backlash ensued over Wood's remarks - his tweet earned more than 6,600 responses, nearly 11,300 retweets and 28,000 likes.

Among those who took issue with his tweet was out actor Neil Patrick Harris.

"Utterly ignorant and classless, Mr. Woods. I'm friends with this family," the "How I Met Your Mother" star wrote. "You know not of what you speak, and should be ashamed of yourself."

Other Twitter uses blasted Woods as well.

As People notes, the boy's mother, Lori Duron, wrote a blog post about her son's time at Pride. In a post called "My Gender Creative Son's First Pride," she wrote:

"My sweet, fabulous, rainbow boy has never received so many compliments," Duron wrote. "He's used to getting stares and whispers when we're out in public. He's not used to getting the smiles, hugs and encouragement he received at Pride."

This isn't the first time Woods made controversial remarks against members of the LGBTQ community. Earlier this year he took aim at CNN reporter Anderson Cooper.
