The neon lights were out Saturday night at the Providence Performing Arts Center where Broadway singing legend, Bernadette Peters, graced the stage and delighted audiences with a collection of some of her favorite show tunes. Accompanied by our own Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, her ninety-minute performance was energetic, heartfelt and especially enjoyable for those seeking a nostalgic walk along the Great White Way.

Peters, who just turned 60, looked and sounded spectacular as she belted out a set of more than a dozen classic musical numbers, including renditions of "Move On" (from ’Sunday in the Park With George"), "No One Is Alone" (from "Into the Woods"), "Unexpected Song" (from Song and Dance, for which she won her first Tony), "Some Enchanted Evening" (from South Pacific), "Johanna" (from Sweeney Todd), Peggy Lee’s "Fever," and closed her set with "Being Alive" (from Company).

Peters dedicated the last few numbers to her friend and colleague, lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim. This performance with Rhode Island’s Philharmonic Orchestra was the second in New England, following a Friday evening appearance in Worcester. Click here for a review of that concert.
