Prop 8 Protest Rally at RI State House SaturdayWednesday Nov 12, 2008 Marriage Equality Rhode Island (MERI) will join with local community organizers including inFOCUS and others nationwide to hold a Prop 8 protest rally at the south entrance to the State House on Saturday, November 15 at 1:30 pm.
The GLBT community nationwide has reacted with anger and sadness to the anti-gay referendum wins in California, Arizona, Florida and Arkansas.
The effort has been organized by Join the Impact! and it is anticipated that rallies will be held in all 50 states.
The passage of Prop 8 changed the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry. Same-sex couples have been marrying legally in California since the state’s highest court ruled in favor of marriage equality in June.
San Francisco alone has issued nearly 5,000 marriages licenses in the last five months.
