In a statement on their Facebook page today, the owners of Fire Island Pines Ventures announced that long awaited opening of the newly constructed Pavilion Nightclub would not have its official grand opening weekend as planned.

Early reports from Fire Island Pines indicate widespread damage but no homes lost or Cherry Grove. Nevertheless Hurricane Sandy appears to have affected Fire Island in profound ways, including destruction of many of the protective dunes.

Without a doubt one of the most anticipated parties on Fire Island. A charity by the Fun in the Sun foundation that has grown into a full weekend of events, the main one being a party on the beach with hundreds dancing under the sun.

The building’s form is sheared towards the harbor to visually welcome the over 800,000 visitors who arrive via ferry to Fire Island every summer. It will have two stories of outdoor terrace and a "Welcome Bar" to serve as a meeting place for all resident
